William P. Herron
North Augusta, SC – William Perry “Billy” Herron Sr. entered into Heavenly rest on June 14th, 2021, in the comfort of his home.
A memorial service will be held at Chance & Hydrick Funeral Home, on Monday, June 21st, 2021 at 2:00 P.M. Visitation will start at 1:00P.M. with Pastor Paul W. Noe officiating.
He was born in Augusta, GA on March 17th, 1936, to the late Alvin Lee Herron and Dorothy Evelyn Wylds Herron. He graduated from Richmond Academy in 1957 and was inducted into the US Army on December 3rd, 1958. He served as a tank mechanic with Co. C 126 Ordinance Battalion in Crailsheim, Germany. He served for two years and was then transferred and served in the Army reserves until his discharge on December 2, 1964.
He met the love of his life, Linda Jane Cash, in October 1961. They were married on December 1, 1961. He spent 50 years working as an Automotive and Industrial Maintenance Mechanic with Harrison-Gulley Chevrolet and DSM Chemicals before retiring. Hobbies include fishing and NASCAR, but his first love was NASCAR. He watched NASCAR for over 60 years and loved being “at the tracks on race day.” He was also a faithful member of Fleming Baptist Church and the Agape Sunday School class.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Herron was preceded in death by his half brothers, Charles Alvin “Buddy” Herron and Richard Lee “Dickie” Herron.
He is survived by his wife; his sons, William P. Herron Jr (Shannon) and Richard L. Herron (Tammy); 4 grandchildren, Courtney H. Duffie (Shawn), Joshua M. Herron, Summer H. Wolfgram, and Allison N. Herron; 3 great grandchildren, Aidyn G. Wolfgram, Mathew A. Duffie, and Michael A. Duffie; his brother, Donald H. Herron(Carol); his sister, Dorothy H. Jennings (Fred) along with nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers the family request donations to the American Heart Association or the American Lung Association.
