Nellie “Jane” Neal

Augusta, GA – Nellie “Jane” Neal, 77, beloved wife of  Mr. Tommy Neal, was surrounded by her family as Jesus took her home on Sunday, May 23, 2021, at her residence.

Funeral services will be held from the chapel of Chance and Hydrick Funeral Directors this Wednesday, May 26, 2021, at 2:00 P.M., with the Mr. David Josey officiating. Private interment will be in Hillcrest Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 12:00 until 2:00 P.M. at the funeral home.

Born in Charleston, SC on July 3, 1943, she was the daughter of the late Charlie J. and Mary Lou Daniel Childers, and had made the Augusta area her home since 1953. Mrs. Neal graduated from Richmond Academy and then worked for several years at Gracewood and retired as an LPN from the Medical College of Georgia in 1990. She was an avid GA Bulldog fan who made sure to watch every game. She loved gardening, flowers and being around family. She devoted her spare time to Broad Street Ministries helping others. She was a longtime member of Crestview Baptist Church where she loved singing in the choir.

In addition to her husband, Mrs. Neal is survived by her children, Keith Neal (Melinda), Kelvin Neal (Suzanne), Deborah Leanett Douglas (David) and Patricia Ann Newsome (Daniel); her brother, Larry Childers; her sisters, Ann Rauton and Sue Nussman; her eight grandchildren, Ashley Bragg, Kelvin Neal, Jr., Nathan Neal, Kaylee Neal, Joshua Neal, Breanna Douglas, Brandy Douglas and Lake Day; as well as numerous great grandchildren.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Heartland Hospice for their services, care and comfort during Mrs. Neal’s last months.
