Harvey Lee James

Hephzibah, GA – Harvey Lee James, 88, beloved husband of Dolores “Peggy” Martin James,
entered into rest on Tuesday, June 8, 2021 at his residence.

Funeral services will be held from the chapel of Chance and Hydrick Funeral Directors, Friday, June 11, 2021, at 11:00 A.M., with Pastor Perry Key officiating. Interment will follow in Hillcrest Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends from 10:00 A.M. until the hour of the service at the funeral home.

Born in Hephzibah, GA on June 20, 1932, he was the son of the late Roy and Clara Wylds James and made the Hephzibah area his home all of his life. Mr. James served in the US Navy during the Korean War and went on to retire from Procter and Gamble. He loved to play his guitar and was a big fan of classic country. He loved NASCAR and has been to many races. He was an avid Atlanta Braves fan and looked forward to watching the games on TV. His favorite pastime was his garden, he spent many hours getting the fields plowed, planting the garden and picking the vegetables when they were ready. He was a longtime member of Mount Lebanon Baptist Church and the back pew will never be the same without him.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Mae Clements.

In addition to his wife, Mr. James is survived by his daughter, Shelby James Rogers (Jeff); his son, Martin James (Leslie); his grandchildren Colby Rogers and Chase James; his sisters, Darnelle Tyner and Anne Tolbert; his brothers, Hilliard James and Herman James; as well as a host of nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Joshua Tyner, Matthew Tyner, Daniel Tyner and Russell Logue.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Encompass Home Health for their services, care and comfort during Mr. James last months.
